THE ECHOES

Lên Ngàn was honored to take part in the program TOGETHER DEFENDING THE NATION with the opening performance ECHOES at the Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long. The program was organized by the Central Propaganda and Education Commission, the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army, and the Hanoi People’s Committee, and produced by Vietnam National Defence Television, QPVN.

With ECHOES, all memories seem to be drawn closer, unfolding together within a flattened space. The past and the future are condensed into the present, both becoming visible in the current moment. Within this surreal space, figures dressed in Lý and Trần dynasty costumes, together with a cavalry procession, appear as though they have stepped out from the past.

Through the layered scenes of contemporary theatre, the work evokes the spirit of survival in the face of adversity, confronting an uncertain future with sincere gratitude for the heroic figures who sacrificed their lives for the country.

ECHOES carries a majestic resonance, drawing on iconic characters from classical excerpts of traditional Tuồng theatre such as Đào Tam Xuân, Sơn Hậu, Lưu Kim Đính, and Châu Sáng Crosses the River. The main character passes through different dimensions of space, encountering archetypes of loyalty, patriotism, sacrifice for the greater cause, and lessons on human conduct.
